Crisp and casual is the complete fall style for men

Posted on October 7, 2011

Spending the day outdoors in the fall is wonderful, the changing colors of the leaves provide the backdrop for some gorgeous scenes, and the air is fresh. Spending the day feeling chilly however, is downright unpleasant and a reminder that winter is on its way. Here we bring you a collection of separates designed to help you stay warm. With these “must have pieces,” enjoying a brisk fall day never looked so good or felt so comfortable.

To be practical and in style, the cornerstone to every outfit for fall is a vest. Lightly padded and lined, a vest makes it simple to adjust to fall’s variable weather and keep your body temperature even. The vest will help trap body heat to keep you toasty on extra-cool days as well as provide protection against strong winds and rain. On the fashion front, a vest anchors your look squarely in the sporty-cool category.

A gray sweater is another must for this fall season. It needs to be simple, close-to-the-body cut that will show off your physique to its maximum advantage. A mock-neck style won’t ever look dated or trendy. Keep it neutral, like heather gray hue pairs well with everything. Wear it casually with a vest and jeans, if you plan to spend time outdoors or team it with dress pants for the office.

Sunglasses essential to have for fall. Just because summer is over, it doesn’t mean you can leave your sunglasses at home when you step out. Shield your eyes from the sun’s harmful rays on a bright fall day and inject some attitude into your look at the same time.

As the daylight hours start to dwindle in early fall, your preferred shade of denim should become increasingly dark. Your denim should be a dark blue or even black. Pair them with sneakers and basic layers while the sun is still out, and then throw on a button-down, a blazer, and your dancing shoes for a night of clubbing. Denim goes with just about everything down or dress up–which do you prefer?

Eye-catching casual style requires a little more effort than simply throwing on jeans and a T-shirt. To make a more memorable impression, try adding unexpected extras to your outfits, like a reversible black-and-white leather belt. Its bright white hue will pop against dark blue jeans in an appealing, sporty way. Make the belt work-appropriate by reversing it to the black side.

Layering is the key to both being warm and being stylish in the fall. With these suggestions, your fall season should be crisp, casual, and comfortable.

2011 Spring/Summer Grooming Trends

Posted on May 16, 2011

Want tips to keep you looking dapper for the Spring/Summer season?

Take a look at the 2011 Spring/Summer Grooming Trends.

Clothing is not the only area of style that evolves over time. Male grooming trends also go through changes. Watch and see what to be on the lookout for this spring.

* Rebirth of the Barbershop–Old-style barbershops have definitely reappeared on the grooming scene again. Everything from straight edge shaves to facials to waxing treatments. The ranges of services are endless. FRANKLYN MEN WAS FIRST TO RECOGNIZE THIS TREND IN THE CENTRAL PA AREA.  NOW OPERATING FOR 4 YEARS, FRANKLYN MEN STILL MAINTAINS OLD STYLE BARBERSHOP VALUES, BUT IN A CONTEMPORARY SETTING.

* Side parts and slingbacks–Closely related to the old style barbershops is the return to mid-century hairstyles. Side parts have quickly made a come back but it should be deliberately parted without it being perfect. If you like a part why not just mess it up a little. If that is not quite your style, try a slick-back look in which all the hair is slicked back but natural looking. It could be slicked back with using just a little pomade or grooming cream by Minn of New York.

* Clean-cut faces–The ultimate rebirth is the swiping a fresh razor clear across your face for a clean cut shave. Last year beards were in, 2011 clean cut is cool again. Have a beard? Try a hot lather shave.

* Tamed beards–If you are not quite ready to say goodbye to your facial hair then by all means keep it. However, keep in mind that scruff is all it should be. Trimmed and tightened up is the key.

* Balanced body hair–Pruning is recommended but the idea is remove hair where is doesn’t belong by today’s standards.

* Controlled brows–When it comes to eyebrows, hair removal can make all the difference. Clear the middle region between both brows,

rid yourself of strays by tweezing a few. Just remember tweezed brows should never look DONE just cleaned up.

Keep these grooming trends in mind this spring and you are sure to be the center of attention.

GREAT HAIR

Posted on March 7, 2011

Great hair depends on your barber, an expert cut and individualized hair care.

This year men should make an effort to leave their comfort zone, take your barber’s suggestion and try something new. When it comes to men’s hairstyles, 2011 has a variety of choices to offer. Mid-length and longer hairstyles are huge themes this year, you’ll also be seeing plenty of short cuts as well that are specifically designed for the well-defined man. These styles bring together several eras in a modern way. See below for some styles.

Also, receiving the right education from your barber on product application techniques is essential. You should always be informed about which products they are using on your hair and why. The amount of product to use should also be addressed along with whether the product should be applied to wet or dry hair to achieve the best results possible.

Facial hair–should you have it or not?

FACIAL HAIR– Should you have it or not?

Just as there are different hairstyles for your head shape and hair texture, there are facial hair styles that look best on specific face shapes as well. By altering your facial hair you can heighten strong features and even cover up flaws. Whatever the case, it needs to be well-kept and managed for today’s man. Though countless facial hair styles exist, the style you choose is a very personal one. Below are some options , what facial hair style is your look?

  • Five o’ Clock Shadow     The five o’ clock shadow refers to the growth of hair that appears late in the day after clean shaving your face in the morning. Related styles include light to heavy stubble in which hair growth is continued for one or several days. This look can add definition to faces with softer bone structure.

  • Circle Beard      The circle beard is achieved when a mustache and a chin beard are connected along the sides of the mouth. This style can add length to a rounded face but it can add weight if not cared for in the proper way.

  • Goatee      A goatee refers to a mustache worn with a chin beard that is NOT connected. This can be a good option for rounder faces because it adds length and width.

  • Chinstrap      This refers to the hair that extends downward from the sideburns along the jaw line, connecting to the chin. It can also be worn with or without a mustache. It helps create a jaw line and frames the face.

  • Mutton Chops      Mutton chops consist of sideburns that are grown long to extend to the corners of the mouth, with a mustache and or goatee shaved off. This seems to be best suited for a guy who displays artistic style and is in the arts and entertainment industry.

  • Chevron      Chevron consists of a full, wide mustache that generally hangs down slightly over the upper lip. This style reads masculine but updated.

  • Horseshoe      The horseshoe consists of a full mustache with growth vertically extending down from the corners of the lips, ending at the jaw line. This style is normally maintained by the southern man.

  • Full Beard      The traditional full beard style consists of growth along the upper lip, chin, sides and is connected to the sideburns. This is a good option for the guys with weaker jaw lines.

  • For those of you men that can not grow facial hair or comes in blotchy, stick with a clean shave. A clean shave is easier to maintain rather than trying to leave a few strands grow in.

Facial hair can add a smoking hot look to your style. Add strength and spirit to your style–GROW SOME FACIAL HAIR. Trouble deciding what style works best for you? Ask a pro at Franklyn Men, Master Barbers
